Dr William Critchley is the head of the Sustainable Land Management Unit at the Centre for International Cooperation of the VU University Amsterdam, with 30 years of experience with water harvesting systems and soil and water conservation technologies in general. In the 1980s and 90s, he managed and conducted consultancy-based  studies on water harvesting systems, one in East Africa and covering one Pan Africa, including the World Bank study on “Sub-Saharan Water Harvesting” between 1987 and 1989 (Critchley et al 1992). After that, he has managed various research and capacity building projects, including two looking specifically at local innovation in WHTs and associate technologies.
